# My role

My primary role on Fliteboard was as the Solutions Architect.
After multiple client workshops it became clear that we had to develop a custom
solution to deliver on the unique requirements that Fliteboard, and designing
that system was my responsibility.

I lead the project from a technical perspective, and developed the
infrastructure, pipeline, and backend with multiple payment gateways and a
fully unit tested API. The solution was then deployed in the form of a
statically compiled frontend, and an autoscaling backend deployed to AWS.

# The project

Early in 2019, [Fliteboard](https://fliteboard.com) received a large round of
funding, and with millions in presales, there was not yet a framework to build
and deliver products at scale. My team at [B.B.E](https://bbe.io) was engaged to
develop an ecommerce solution that would fulfill on pre-sales, for a market
launch in 90 days.

From brief to market launch, the site was completely rebuilt and launched with
global shipping and online sales in 13 regions.

With a complex product structure comprised of 9 individual components from a
pool of 20+ components, which in turn are each constructed from 100+ units,
there were 672 individual SKUs for each possible product bundle.

To solve this, I designed and implemented a solution in which products could be
effectively tracked by their components, but purchased as a single configurable
product by the customer.

This reduction in inventory management overheard contributed to successfully
forecasting sales and reducing lead time on orders from 3 months to 6 weeks.

# The results

- Rolled out to 13 regions
- On track to realise $17m in year 1 sales
- 175% increased revenue
- 426% increase in traffic
- 4901 assertions across 169 automated unit tests, covering all aspects of the API
- Reduction of server response time from 4-8 seconds, down to .0002 seconds, with automated and scalable hosting

# My role

Over the course of this project I worked with the client to specify the solution
and lead the development of this campaign landing page - deployed onto
Momentum's existing CMS.

The landing page was built in VueJS and used custom built SVGs to animate and
change the site as the user scrolled through.

# The results

Not only did Momentum Energy break all-time monthly sales records (for
consecutive months) during a highly politicised time for Australian energy, we
achieved brand awareness of 47% and reduced call centre transfers by 50%.

# My role

My role on this project was as the technical lead, solutions architect, and backend developer.
I managed all of the the data, hardware, and systems integrations - ensuring that
data from the backend systems I built flowed directly through to the frontend of the app.

I provisioned customised OSs on touch screen hardware, and created backend systems for delivering
updates, so that the app could operate offline in the unpredictable environments of the concept stores.

# The project

Working with [Specsavers](https://www.specsavers.com.au/) we set out to develop
a digital in store experience that would give both customers and store staff a
point of interest and convergence.

# The solution

Research identified that the volume of product in store was often overwhelming.
To tackle a solution a touch screen app was designed to supplement a reduced
number of SKUs on shelf - minimising clutter, without losing the ability to
up-sell or cross sell.

Touch and gesture enabled, the touch screen allowed customers to search based on
face shape, brand, colour, and price range to see products from all angles.

The devices could be deployed to any store where they would sync down changes to
both code and products, and then operate in a completely offline fashion -
Reporting tracking events when a connection is successfully reestablished.

# The results

- Successful pilot in concept stores
- Roll out across a number of pop-up stores
- 1000s of products sampled across a range of brands and price ranges
- Improving dwell time without impacting retail staff requirements

# My role

Over the course of this project I have been responsible for all hosting and
backend systems. I built the initial frontend - then lead it's continued
development as it evolved.

What initially started as a simple project on VPS hosting, grew to a complex
architecture deployed to a Kubernetes cluster that I managed and provisioned
with Terraform. As well as a backend I integrated with internal Medibank
systems.

# The project

In 2020 and beyond, [Live Better](https://www.medibank.com.au/livebetter/) is
[Medibank's](https://www.medibank.com.au/) primary go-to-market proposition.
It's a project I've been working on at [B.B.E](https://bbe.io) since its
beginnings, and is now the unifying platform from which communications stems.

## Project 1 - Health Brief

The road to Live Better starts with creation of a new content marketing site;
Medibank Health Brief. Created in React, the site pulled content from WordPress
over the API to deliver a dynamic and responsive experience to all user.

Health Brief became an expansive and trusted resource to support Australians in
preventative and restorative health.

## Project 2 - School of Better

In the same year as Health Brief, we also launched School of Better, a custom
built learning management system which provided people with in depth learning
experiences on psychology, nutrition and physical health.

## Project 3 - Live Better

Continuing the headless API driven approach from Health Brief, Live Better was
built with VueJS in the frontend, Contentful powering the content management
system, and Laravel providing backend microservices and utilities.

Live Better combined Medibank's 3 disparate marketing platforms into one.
With everything now connected through Salesforce and other technologies, it
quickly became the backbone of marketing automation for Medibank.

- Target audience increased in traffic from 8% to 15%
- The site became responsible for 5% of online transaction revenue within 2 months since launch
- Increased mobile views by 15% and tablet views by 2%

# Continuous development

Every second person who joined Medibank had previously engaged with Live Better -
it had become an incredibly powerful product, so development continued in order
to refine the site and expand the proposition beyond its current properties.

Live Better became the platform for much of Medibank's work, with campaigns such
as Free + Active, Procedures Cost Estimator, People Like You, and Healthy Kids
being created on it.

With dramatic increases in demand, I migrated Live Better's hosting to its own
Kubernetes Cluster. This large autoscaling cluster now hosts all of the
microservices and campaigns related to Live Better.

# Live Better App

In parallel to the previous years of work on Live Better, a team at Medibank was
working on a loyalty program to help promote healthy behaviour, in the form of
the Live Better app.

We worked alongside this team to utilise the headless approach we developed, and
deliver content straight from the Live Better site into the Live Better App.

Live Better


# My role

Over the course of the BotBuster project, I was responsible for the complete
development pipeline and infrastructure of the solution. I leveraged the chat
framework I [developed for Qantas](/work/qantas-bot), and deployed it with the
same battle test hosting configuration.

I was involved directly with stakeholders at all stages of the project, from the
initial proposal to backlog development and presentations.

# The project

The project came about when [Roadshow Films](https://roadshow.com.au) proposed
the use of Facebook Messenger as a strategic opportunity. We responded with an
idea for a bot that lets people and groups book movies - all within Messenger.

Buster is able to handle millions of interactions simultaneously, with the
ability to find any movie session at any cinema in Australia. People can invite
friends to the discussion and Buster will asynchronously facilitate the
conversation between them to arrive at a session everyone can attend.

- 20 average interactions each

# My role

Initially as the sole developer, and later as the Tech Lead - I built Display
Studio and lead it's development as we scaled it to a fully featured SaaS.

The project was built with Laravel as the backend, and had a custom tracking
script that injected display banners into sites and monitored usage. As demand
for the project grew, I optimised the hosting configuration and migrated to a
new database that could deal with the large demand.

# The project

Display Studio was born from my work with Medibank on other projects - we needed
a simple and lightweight way to connect the audience to personalised and
effective content on platform.

By monitoring how the user navigates the website, and hooking into data sources
such as Salesforce or Hubspot, Display Studio is able to auto-optimise and
prioritise the content that is going to result in the most likely click-through
to conversion. Providing a cost effective way to serve up content and ads in
real time that are a reflection of a customers behaviour.

the next best action.

# My role

As the sole developer and solutions architect - I was responsible for all data,
integrations, backend development, and infrastructure.

This being the early days of messenger bots; I developed a custom framework that
fully integrated the bot with Qantas' social customer service platform (Lexer).
This framework delivered on Qantas' bespoke needs in an environment where comms
can be critical and challenging.

In order to act as the gatekeeper to all communications that flow through
Facebook Messenger - the infrastructure I created was subject to rigorous
testing. Kill switches were built into the bot to deactivate it in emergency,
and significant load testing and penetration testing activities were undertaken.

# The project

The [Qantas](https://www.qantas.com/au/en.html) Concierge Bot was created as
part of a strategy to utilise Facebook Messenger as a marketing channel, while
also automating basic enquiries.

# The solution

The Qantas Concierge Bot was built to provide a convenient and useful tool that
sits complementary to Qantas customer service agents. By using set keywords and
natural language, it helped consumers with basic queries, flight deals, and
introduced them to new destinations from Qantas Travel Insider content.

# My role

My role on the project was as the sole developer and solutions architect -
responsible for all data, integrations, and frontend development.

I built the site in Shopify Plus, and worked directly with
[RedBalloon](https://www.redballoon.com.au/) in Sydney to define requirements
and develop the brand.

# The project

Our mission was to make thoughtful gifting easier, and our challenge was to
stand up a fully transactional ecommerce site in under 2 months - just in time
for Christmas shopping.

One of my first jobs out of school was as the Sailing Administrator at Royal Brighton
Yacht club, where I was responsible for running many of the club regattas,
including state and national.

The largest pain points that emerged from my time in this role was the
need to manage and communicate with many Volunteers at once. Especially over the
course of an active regatta - where safety boats and radio towers all need to
work in unison.

To address this need, I took the initiative of creating a platform that I called
[Volunteer Roster](https://volunteerroster.com). A system for handling
registrations, documentation, and communication with a large number of
volunteers at once.

Volunteer Roster is now used by many Yacht Club around Australia, and progress
on its 5th major update is underway.
